the Sound of Story is the
dominant sound of our Lives

Once Upon an Imagining a StoryTelling Time,

Dear Principals, Teachers and Parents on PTA/PTO Cultural Enrichment Committees,

The place I am most at home in and have spent the most time in is schools and libraries. My path to becoming a professional storyteller began growing up with a storytelling father who also found a way to bring books home, while also working day and nite to feed, clothe and provide for 10 chidren. My mother also loved to read, when she had time, plus recite poetry. They enjoyed singing and theater. Our living room and back yard were often performing stages. The dining room tables were where I first started teaching with my younger siblings.

I come to you with a B.S. in Education and English and an M.S. in Education and Communication Arts. I started out as a substitute teacher. My passion and determination lead to becoming a fulltime secondary English teacher. As in all of our stories, time passed. I taught junior high, high school, community college and adult education. I have been a secondary reference librarian, elementary media specialist and children's programmer in a town, public library.

It was in my own English teaching classroom that I discovered the power of story and came to know that STORY was at the core. Eventually, I launched myself out on a wing and a prayer to become a full time professional storyteller.

This is where we meet. With this background in education, storytelling offers me the ever enriching experience to vision, dream, mull, ponder, plan, select, make lesson plans of stories, and present. I love this part of being a storyteller, of anticipating and planning WONDER-FILLED, ENRICHING, EDUCATIONAL, and INSPIRING CONCERTS of STORY, SONG, CHANT, CIRCLE DANCE with DRUM, POETRY WITH MOVEMENT and MORE ! This time is absolutely MAGICAL for me, sitting with the aha's, haha's, ideas and years of story, classical literature, contemporary literature, song, chant, poems and rhymes that walk with me.

No two programs are ever the same for me. I love variety, diversity and my ever active imagination is always gathering and gaining new insights. Plus, I am always learning and growing and being visited by .... new STORIES ! I can actually hear their voices saying, " TELL ME !"

Please know that I WELCOME YOUR CREATIVE INPUT. I WANT TO KNOW YOUR INTENTION, NEEDS, DESIRES, CONCERNS for my Coming to your Venue. I LOVE CO-CREATING with OTHERS of ALL AGES.

Thank You for finding your way to me here. Let's get going ! There are stories waiting to be told and shared.

on Story Winds,

Moriah Vecchia
