I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE BOATNG BAN THROUGH THIS WEB SITE! THIS MESSAGE IS FOR THE DUMBASSES WHO ARE WASTING TAX PAYERS TIME AND MONEY OVER THIS BULL S___! I DO NOT OWN A BOAT BUT MOST OF MY FRIENDS DO! BOTH RIVER RATS AND LAKE GOERS, THANKS TO THEM I ENJOY MY DAYS AND NIGHTS ON THE WATER. I HAVE A SUGGESTION FOR THE POLITICIANS WHO DON'T HAVE A CLUE TO THE REAL MEANING OF FREEDOM! HOW ABOUT YOU PUT DOWN YOUR LAPTOPS, LEAVE THE LUXURIES OF YOUR 6 FIGURE LIFE STYLE. VOLUNTEER IN THE MILITARY,PICK UP A M-4 ASSAULT RIFLE, WEAR 40 LBS OF BODY ARMOR EVERY DAY FOR 365 DAYS! ON TOP OF THAT SPEND MOST OF YOUR DAYS AND NIGHTS WORRYING ABOUT SMALL ARMS FIRE AND ROCKET, MORTER ATTACKS! THEN AND ONLY THEN WILL YOU REALIZE THAT YOU ARE FIGHTING FOR A BULL S___ CAUSE! HOW ABOUT YOU LEAVE THE HARD WORKING AMERICAN PEOPLE ALONE AND LET THEM ENJOY THE FRUITS OF THEIR LABOR! IF A HARD WORKING AMERICAN WANTS TO BUY A 100 MILE AN HOUR BOAT OR RIDE HIS OR HER HARLEY WITH LOUD PIPES THE IT IS THIER RIGHT AS "FREE" AMERICAN TO DO SO! THAT IS WHAT THIS COUNTRY HAS FOUGHT FOR AND STILL FIGHTING FOR EVERY DAY. WHEN THE POLITICIANS START DICTIATING WHAT WE CAN HAVE AND WHERE WE CAN ENJOY THEM THEN WE ARE NOT "FREE"! IF Y'ALL WANT SOMETHING WORTH WHILE FIGHTING FOR COME TO IRAQ AND JOIN THE THOUSANDS OF BROTHERS AND SISTERS OVER HERE FIGHTING FOR YOUR FREEDOM. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF MICROMANAGEMENT OF OUR FREE COUNTRY. IT IS TIME TO "MAN UP" AND LET OUR COUNTRY STAY "FREE" THANK YOU, "ANGRY IN IRAQ"

Steve, I missed the biggest loser of business in my e-mail to you. The automobile dealers tend to lose a lot in this too. There are several million dollars woth of $40-50 thousand dollar trucks pulling those big boats and they get replaced every two or three years. If the big boats get legislated out of Alabama and move to Destin, then the car/truck dealers (and the State of Alabama) are out a lot of money. Doesn't make sense to pull a big boat back and forth to the Gulf if that's the only place of use. I'm sure the State of FL and Destin marinas would appreciate the business/revenue.

I agree with you Cat... I have stated that all along. I can go trade in my 27' 2" Baja 275 rated for 65 mph (banned) for a 25' 6" Baja 25 Outlaw rated for 75 mph and be legal. Or I could get me a 29' Sea Ray 290 Sundancer rated for 55 mph that produces those "pier crushing, shoreline erroding" wakes and be legal. So it ain't about speed limits and lake integrity!!! Another thing that chaps my a$$ are the House Reps that switched sides and now support the bill once the lakes in their districts were removed from the list. If you remember, last Thursday night I went to Pell City to the Logan Martin Lake meeting. House Rep. Randy Wood - Anniston, sat up there and cried and whined and talked about how unfair this is. They took Logan Martin Lake off the list and now he is in full support of it. See his comments in the article in the Daily Home today. It is all about the land developers and the $$$$$$. Anybody that thinks differently is a frigging idiot.

The 3 fastest boats on Smith Lake are bass boats,21' Bulllet, and 2 20' Allisons. All over 100 mph,and would be legal, even tho a 300X won't pass the decibel test.My 90 mph 353 Formula will pass the 86 db test all day long with the factory mufflers. Which boat is the threat?

I just walked through and around my shop, and found something very interesting. Please read below, and you'll see what I mean. *22 Stryker top speed 82mph *22 Vindicator top speed 80mph *26 Eliminator top speed 78mph *24 HTM top speed 125 mph *26 Sea Ray top speed 60mph *24 Caravelle top speed 72mph *30 Eliminator top speed 100+ Now, here is 7 boats, and every one of them will go over the 60mph builder posted speed limit, and only one of them is banned! The APCO/Russell backed bill is good for them, and them only. They can still sell cruisers less that 30'6", rent there slips, and sell smaller runabouts. They have cut the effected people down to small numbers so they can have there bill, and sell there properties for billions of dollars to Ga. Developers. They had to build a huge opposition, divide it into small groups by giving up lakes to get votes so they could profit. Someone I want name shined the light on this. I should post this on the Lakemartin forum, but I want do that for now. Just my .02 worth, and I am pissed off. DON"T be sold out as a taxpayer, Senator or whoever you are. This just ain't right.

I really believe we will whip this in the Senate. Jabo Waggoner,Curt Lee,Jack Biddle,Jed Marsh and a few others cannot be bought. We all know the 2 companies behind this, and why they are behind it.They are not going to grandfather in the "Cigar" boats, and the lawyers that own them are already forming a plan to fight it in court if it passes. I am putting my money on Jabo and friends to defeat the worst power grab by Alabama Power and the "other" company that I have ever seen in the 40 years I have been in this business. My lake is safe for now,but what about next year? We have to stop it next week,I believe we can.

Scarab Man, I love Streams too. Especially the Vector and the late 70s hulls. They are a little faster than my XB02 Allison with the same horsepower. Primarily due to the weight difference (600lb Vecors vs. 950lb XB02). But the Vector is actually more stable than my boat at speed because of the Vector's concave and slotted pad. The older Vectors don't require as much attention until you get into rough water. If I could afford two boats I'd probably try to buy Lammon's 79 Vector and change it over to a center steer. The new 20/21' Streams are nice but those hulls weigh in close to 1000lbs and more. Scott had the ultimate Allison (XR02 - 650lbs) but sold it several years ago.

Thanks again for the update and info, Dave. This issue sort of indirectly involves eminent domain. Eminent domain is a hot issue that most elected officials would like to stay away from. In fact, the gov just signed a law a few months ago that limited use of eminent domain. Here we have a public monoploy utility attempting to sell condemned land to private investors for use other than to generate power or provide public recreation. The original land owners have obviously been slighted, the tax payers have been slighted, and perhaps the utilities customers are being over-charged. I'm very surprised that an elected official would want his/her name on a bill that allowed condemned property to be sold by a regulated public utility to private investors. It would appear that the qriginal land owners and the PSC would be asking for compensation from AP/SC. Maybe I'm looking at this wrong. The process might be totally different from that to build a COE lake.

The lakes are public as all bodies of water are controlled by the State. That is why the State Marine Police patrol. That is why APCO has to have the State Legislation passed to impose their bull$hit restrictions... they can't just do it themselves. APCO manages the water levels and shoreline management... such as how far out a dock/boathouse can extend into the lake and the size the structure can be.

Just a few questions: Who exactly owns the Southern Company lakes? Are they public or private? If they are private, then why is AL Water Safety patrolling them? Is there any federal property on the Martin shoreline? If so, does this prohibit certain state restrictions that can limit use?

Here is the latest as of 30 minutes ago. They are down to three lakes that would be affected by the restrictions... Martin, Harris, Weiss. They let the Legislators in the districts where a lake would be affected decide if they wanted that lake included in the restrictions. Jordan, Logan Martin, Smith, Neeley Henry, Mitchell, Lay, Thurlow and Yates were exempted. The length minimum is back at the original 30' 6''. The Senators are still balking, wanting Martin exempted also. They can have Harris and Weiss. There is no guarantee this compromise will pass. If it makes it out of the House and is passed on to the Senate, they are going to attempt to kill it.

So what happened with boating bill?

dabuckwheat   parrishp@knology.net
03-29-2006 02:08:25 pm CST
This is a phenomena mostly unique to Allison drivers that is known as a “hook” or “bat-turn”. It happens when an air bubble forms on the left hand side of the gear case or the prop suddenly loses bite for other reasons. The nose drops to one side and the V grabs the water. The boat tries to stand on the nose and spins around. It is the most violent and un-natural act that you will ever experience. It sometimes results in broken toes, feet, ribs, and sometimes teeth marks on the gunnels. I’ve had three of these (one a little over 70 mph) and hope I’ve experienced the last one. The picture is of an Allison friend in Atlanta (20 years my junior) who does this for “kicks” in his Allison XS03 GS. So don’t accept rides in Allisons having poor gear cases or drivers with trim happy fingers or too much alcohol. It might look cool but you don’t want to do it. I've heard that Shane Stovall has had a couple of these at over 100mph in an XB02 model Allison. Phillip
