MUSICAL THEATRE PROGRAMS

*These programs are fun, challenging, engaging and age/level appropriate. Self-esteem will skyrocket as members learn to develop characters, vocal technique, presentation and dance skills. A
professional attitude, patience and respect is a must! A musical production will be performed on stage so this will require a commitment from everyone involved. Students are expected to attend all rehearsals and independently study their lines, songs and blocking as scheduled. We only have a certain number of participants that we accept because we want our group to be a true learning experience for all cast members. This is an excellent way to truly develop as an artistic performer.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:

*Kids Musical Theatre Troupe (for ages 6-9: auditions required)
-This is a highly supportive environment for youngsters to discover talent and develop their courage to sing, act and dance in front of an audience. Children will learn lines, dances, songs, projection techniques, stage directions and performance skills. This is a perfect program for kids who want to be in the spotlight.

*Junior Musical Theatre Troupe (for ages 10-13: auditions required)
-This program is for children who are ready to perform in a musical. Children will learn projection techniques, stage directions, and performance skills. This program will also include acting/improvisation, creative movement, singing and scene rehearsal. Students will learn choreographed pieces and scenes from popular musicals and put them all together for their performance.

*Senior Musical Theatre Troupe (for ages 14-17: auditions required)
-This is a program for students who are serious about musical theatre and performing. We will work on the development of characters, vocal techniques, presentation, how to break down a song, dance skills and more. Students will learn everything necessary to put on a professional show.

Audition Procedures:

-Kids Musical Theatre Program: Three weeks prior to the program, students who want to audition will be asked to come prepared to sing a verse of a song that they know accapella (without music.) We will then ask them a question and to talk about their answer in as much detail as they can. At the end of that week, your child will find out if they have been accepted into the program. On the first day of class, children will play acting games and interact with one another. During these games, they will be asked to pretend to be different characters, asked to speak using many different feelings and asked to memorize a sentence and perform it. At that point, we form our unique and fantastic show!

-Junior Musical Theatre Program: Four weeks before the program starts, students who want to audition will be expected to bring a short song to sing by memory. A
tape/cd accompaniment may be used or they may sing accapella (without music.) We may give them a question and ask them to talk about their answer in detail or we may have them read from the script and try out different parts. The following week, they will find out if they have been accepted into the program. On the first day of class, we will hand out all the materials for the show including parts.

-Senior Musical Theatre Program: Five weeks before the program starts, students who want to audition will be expected to bring a short song to sing by memory. A tape/cd accompaniment may be used or they may sing accapella (without music.) They also may be asked to read from the script. The following week, there will be a callback for some students where we will have them read certain parts from the show. (*Not all students accepted into the program will need to come in for the callback.) Three days after the callback, ALL students accepted into the program will be called and told what role they will be playing.

CASTING:
This is always very difficult and our decisions are based on many variables. Students should know that we see an incredible amount of talent at the auditions. Parts are chosen mainly on the bases of ability, dedication and behavior. We also have to consider height, if your singing voice is low or high and who else is in the cast. Regardless, ALL ROLES are crucial. Whether it be the lead or chorus, NO PRODUCTION could work without an ENTIRE CAST. It is very important to think about that when going into a show. Remember, "there are no small parts, only small actors" ;)

EXPECTATIONS: On the first day of class, members will receive their scripts/parts and a schedule listing which scenes and songs will be rehearsed from week to week. Students are expected to learn lines, songs and choreography so preparation is key. They
need to work on their part before their scheduled time to block the numbers because it is very difficult for a student to learn movement and work on characterization if they're not ready.

COMMITMENT: Performing in a show is very exciting but is also hard work. Members are expected to practice their choreography, follow their schedule and come prepared with lines and songs memorized. Once a student is accepted and started the program, he/she has signed up for the entire show from beginning to end. (The
whole production would be greatly affected if they didn't see it through.)

REHEARSAL CONDUCT: Each rehearsal contains new blocking, choreography and/or vocal training. Therefore, EVERY rehearsal is EXTREMELY important. ALL members must come ready to work. Participants are expected to be professional and remember to stay focused on the task at hand. The entire rehearsal process is about productivity and creating a remarkable piece of art. There is NO tolerance for disruptive verbal or physical behavior. If any member becomes a problem, we will have a talk with them. If it continues to occur, we will involve a parent/guardian. If it is not controlled after all these measures, we will remove the student from the show. (Refunds will not be given if your child is asked to leave the program due to behavioral issues.)

*Please make sure to bring a pencil and your script to every rehearsal.
