Black People’s Independence Day is January 1st,   not July 4th

When colonial whites signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776,  black people were still slaves in this country and  had been enslaved for 300 hundred years.

The Emancipation Proclamation, which set black people free of slavery, wasn’t issued and signed until 87 years later, on January 1, 1863.

While others celebrate Jan. 1st as New Year, a lot of black people celebrate it as Independence Day.   That’s true America.
