"Listen" is the invitation to enter into the circle and receive the shared wisdom. There are Stories to tell of the times before, to teach, to answer how and why, to pass on tradition, to join us to aha and haha, to tell of war and of peace, to offer illumination, to be healing medicine; truly we live in an ocean of story from the depths of the unconscious to what is called forth and created into conscious-ness. We need STORY to companion us from birth thru life to death and beyond.
Once upon a time, I was born in Southbridge, MA to a mother and father who loved children so much that they had ........... 10 ! ( A true tale) I was nurtured by my parents with the companions of storytelling, poetry, community song, dance and theater. These are the bridges to building curiousity and a sense of wonder and interest in world-wide cultures. I grew up introduced to and loving the power of the word; written, spoken, prayed, sung, danced, acted out. As a secondary English teacher, reveling in the realms of story, poetry, drama, myth, I discovered everything I offered my students was connected to STORY. That was my bridge to one day becoming a professional storyteller.
Bridges have always been a central symbol for me as connecting forces between earth, sea and sky. Also, there are the bridges between people and places, between cultures, between us and our ancestors, between spirit and matter. I have come to see my life as being a bridge and Story as the force that builds bridges in all of our lives here on the earth.
At this time on the planet, as a global citizen deeply influenced by the years spent apprenticing, then teaching with the late medicine man, and author Sun Bear, I seek to be a part of, the mending of the sacred hoop of the circle of Life that native prophecies speak of. I believe this reweaving is thru the creative and healing arts. I delight in offering children and the child in all of us the potent gifts of STORY that I received in my childhood. Story is our cultural birthright in defining ourselves as global citizens.
