N. E Truck Series

N. E Truck Series: Brian McElearney (#99) finished first, Andy Lindeman (#3) was declared winner

Rookies

“Mighty” Mike Lewis Memorial. Jim Storace won the 18th annual “Mighty” Mike Lewis Memorial race. The race is held in honor of the longtime Hudson/Star competitor who lost his life in 1998 at 38 years old. Lewis was fierce competitor with a million dollar smile that made him a fan favorite. Lewis won many features in his car that was usually numbered with a Dale Earnhardt style number 3. He won a strictly stock championship in 1992 at Hudson before making the move to the Street Stock division at Star Speedway. It was a dark day in the speedways history when word of his passing came. Each year we honor the man who brought so much excitement to the speedways he raced at.

Jim Storace won the Lewis Memorial. The race was held in two segments with the combined finishes determining the winner. Storace was the picture of consistency by finishing second in each segment. Jay Ryan won the first segment and was fourth in segment two for a second overall finish. Johnny Cash was third overall and finished third in both segments. Max Dolliver was fourth overall, Max won segment two but was seventh in segment one. Matt Robinson was fifth overall with finishes of fourth and fifth. Kris Schroeder was sixth overall with finishes of sixth and eighth. Jimmy Renfrew Jr was seventh overall with finishes of fifth and eighth. Strawberry Fields soldiered to an eighth place overall finish . Attrition was high with sixteen cars starting segment one but only six cars made it through to the finish of segment two. Charlie Baldwin and Johnny Cash won the heats.

Roadrunners Anthony Belfiore (#30) passing Louie Maher

Don Hayes Memorial:
Anthony Belfiore won the 14th annual Don Hayes Memorial. Don Hayes was the speedways photographer/videographer for 54 seasons from 1948-2001. Always a photo buff, when Hayes returned home from serving in the Navy he was looking for some action to shoot. He went to his hometown high school to film football but was asked to leave because they thought he was spying for another school. He then turned to auto racing which was sprouting up everywhere in the late 40’s. He spent the next half century shooting racing all over southern New England. Hudson was always his main gig. Fittingly in 2002 after he passed away the hearse carrying Hayes to the cemetery made a pit stop at Hudson Speedway and took a lap around the high banks that he loved. Flagman Bob Munroe was perched atop the starters stand and waved the checkered flag as the hearse crossed the finish line.

The race was a two segment event with the winner being determined by combined finishes. Twenty cars started segment one. Belfiore won the first segment and was runner-up in the second segment. Jimmy Renfrew Jr won the second segment and was second overall. Two-time Hayes Memorial winner Louie Maher was third. 2014 Hayes memorial winner Justin Storace was fourth. Max Chaput had solid runs in both segments and finished fifth. Chris Fultz was just a spot behind Chaput in sixth with two solid runs of his own. Leon Keniston led the first quarter of segment one and finished seventh overall. Billy McCarthy spun after contact very late in segment one while running second but recovered to finish eighth. Alan Archambault finished seventh and twelfth for an overall finish of ninth. Justin Melo finished tenth overall. Keniston, McCarthy and Belfiore won the heats.

At the white flag Leclair held a half car length lead. Svenconis and Leclair were door to door going into the last corner. Svenconis drove in deep and got a great run off the corner. Outlaws

Outlaws: Erick Sands on the high side three wide, Austin Erickson (#22) & Ben Bosowski (#75)

Erick Sands picked up his first win of the season. At the drop of the green flag Austin Erickson led a three car breakaway that included Ben Bosowki and Sands. Sands was in second place trying high and low to get by Erickson but couldn’t by him. Sands went three wide on the outside while splitting a lapped car trying to make a pass on Erickson but was passed by Bosowski in doing so. Bosowski was soon the lead car with Erickson in second. Sands regrouped and charged by Erickson and a few laps later made it by Bosowki. Bosowki hung on for second place and Erickson was third. Rounding out the field were Todd Warren, Ron Bolduc, Dick Cavarallo, Steve Kolofsky, Smokey Baer, and Kevin Kephart. Bosowski won the heat.

Oscar Leclair was fourth and Bob Baldwin was fifth. Ryan won the heat.

Billy Osborne won feature number ninety of his career. Osborne started in sixth position and was freaky fast in getting to the lead. Osborne built up a big lead while the five cars of Jimmy Renfrew Jr, Paul Wainwright, Dan Sweeney, Billy McCarthy Jr and Bobbo Williams battled for second place. Sweeney came out on top and Renfrew Jr was third. Wainwright was fourth followed by McCarthy Jr, Bobbo Williams, Nick Bettencourt, Chris Fultz, Jef James, Jeremy Rodimon, Anthony Belfiore, Ricky Fisette and Tyler Chase. Sweeney and Renfrew Jr won the heats.

Sno-Bandit Thunder Lights

Thunder Lights: Jaret Curtis (#33) with Taylor Svenconis following

Chailee Parker led the Thunder Lights to the green flag. Nathan Leclair started last and made aggressive moves and quickly found himself out front. Leclair stretched his lead until Taylor Svenconis slid into second place and began reeling him in. Svenconis brought Chase Curtis and Jaret Curtis along with her. Within a few laps they ran down Leclair and began searching for a way around him. With five laps to go Svenconis was working the outside groove. Svenconis was able inch ahead of Leclair a few times but fell into third behind Chase Curtis who was in Leclairs tire tracks. With two laps to go Chase Curtis got under Leclair on the back stretch and took the lead away from him. Going into turn three the top four cars were bumper to bumper to bumper. Contact in the turn between Svenconis and Jaret Curtis sent Svenconis up the track and into Leclair allowing Jaret Curtis to take over second place. Jaret’s time in second was short-lived as contact again between he and Svenconis on the last lap sent Jaret down the track and was passed by Svenconis and Leclair. Chase Curtis picked up his second win of the season. Svenconis was second, Leclair third, Jaret Curtis fourth and Chailee Parker fifth. Svenconis won the heat.

Outlaws

Outlaws: Kevin Kephart taking the checkers

Kevin Kephart won his second feature of the season becoming the first driver to have multiple feature wins in the Outlaws. Kephart started in fourth spot and soon was passing Steve Kolosky to take the lead. Kephart held a steady five car-length lead over Ben Bosowski who ran second. The battle for second heated up in the closing laps when Todd Warrren chased down Bosowski and began searching high and low for a way past him. With two laps to go Warren got the run he needed to get by Bosowski on the backstretch and came home second. Bosowski had to settle for third. Rounding out the field were Austin Erickson, Chuck Dehney, Kolofsky, Dick Cavallaro, Pete Fiandaca and Cris Ballas. Dehney won the heat.

Outlaws: Kevin Kephart and crew

Rookies

Brian Beecher won his first feature in over a decade at Hudson. Beecher raced for many years at Hudson with a lot of success and took time off before returning behind the wheel this season. Beecher started on the pole in the feature and led every lap. It wasn’t an easy task as he had Matt Robinson, Jay Ryan and Mike Williams all within a few car-lengths behind him for the entire race. Robinson was in second in the early going and was able to Beechers rear bumper but couldn’t get past him. Ryan got by Robinson and gave Beecher a run but couldn’t do it either. With two laps to go Robinson got by Ryan and gave it one more run at Beecher but fell short. Robinson finished second with Ryan third, rounding out the field was Williams, Oscar Leclair and Austin Erickson. Beecher won the heat.

The two raced side by side for a few laps before they made contact coming off turn two sending both racers into the tire barrier off the backstretch resulting in a caution. Paul Wainwright inherited the lead with Jimmy Renfrew, Jr. and Jimmy Renfrew, Sr. in second and third. Wainwright held his lead while holding off repeated challenges from both Renfew Jr. and Renfrew Sr. Wainwright scored his fifth victory of the season. Renfrew, Jr. beat Renfrew, Sr. for second place. Todd Warren attempting a pass on the rumble strips

Defending Outlaw champion Todd Warren won the first feature or 2016. Steve Kolofsky led the field to the green flag. Kolofsky who won a Bud Light championship in 1994 was making his first appearance at Hudson since 1998. Rookie Stock graduate Austin Erickson started on the outside pole and jumped out to the lead on the first lap. Erickson held the top spot for more than half of the race until a restart put Warren on the outside of the front row. Erickson and Warren raced side by side for a few laps with Eric Sands right behind them. Warren got a run on Erickson coming off turn two at the same time that Sands got underneath Erickson. They were three-wide down the back-stretch with Warren coming out on top, Erickson second and Sands third. They ran that way until the checkers flew. Ben Bosowski was fourth and Kevin Kephardt was fifth. Bosowski won the heat.

Rookies

Max Dolliver made his first start in the Rookie Stocks and led much of the feature from his front row starting spot. Jay Ryan started eighth and made his way up, passing Dolliver for the lead. Geoff Rollins started the feature right behind Rollins and followed him up through the field and found himself in Rollins tire tracks as laps wound down in the race. Rollins could get to Ryans bumper but couldn’t make the pass and had to settle for second. Dolliver had a great debut and finished third. Brian Beecher was fourth and Kris Schroeder was fifth. Schroeder won the heat.

Wainwrights win was his second of the weekend, he won at Star Speedway the previous evening. Bobbo Williams was second followed by last year’s Thunder Light champion Jimmy Renfrew Jr who did an outstanding job in his first outing in the Roadrunners. Dan Sweeney also made the jump up to Roadrunners from the Thunder Lights and did a great job in coming home fourth. Jon Fultz was fifth.
