Welcome to the Keystone Connection

SPECIALIZING IN GUIDED SMALLMOUTH BASS FISHING TRIPS ON THE ALLEGHENY RIVER

This is the site of veteran outdoor writer & fishing guide Jeff Knapp. It's your connection to exciting and informative guided fishing trips on select waters of the western portion of the Keystone State!

A key focus of the Keystone Connection is jet-boat adventures focusing on portions of the middle Allegheny River.  Skimming through shallow river sections, you’ll have access to miles of lightly-fished waters.  Smallmouth bass are available from April to December.  If walleyes or muskies are your passion, opt to schedule your trip during the prime times for these two premier species.  Typical whole-day trips on the middle Allegheny cover 12 to 15 miles of river.

LATE-JUNE UPDATE: WITH THE SPRING SPAWN COMPLETE ALLEGHENY RIVER SMALLMOUTH HAVE MOVED INTO THEIR TYPICAL SUMMERTIME LOCATIONS.  TRIPS ARE YIELDING NICE NUMBERS OF BASS IN A WIDE VARIETY OF SIZES.  SUMMER PATTERNS WILL PREVAIL FOR THE NEXT THREE MONTHS.   THE EXCELLENT SPORT PROVIDED BY KAHLE LAKE IS CONTINUING INTO THE SUMMER.  THOUGH THE LAKE IS GETTING WEEDY IT HASN'T SLOWED DOWN THE ACTION.  LOTS OF FOLKS ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF SPLIT DAY TRIPS THAT HIT BOTH KAHLE AND THE ALLEGHENY.  KEYSTONE LAKE TOO CONTINUES TO PROVIDE GOOD BASS FISHING FOR BOTH LARGEMOUTH AND SMALLMOUTH.  TRIPS TO OTHER SELECT LAKES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE.

ALSO, THIS YEAR I'M OFFERING A SPLIT-DAY TRIP, WITH HALF THE OUTING ON KAHLE LAKE FOR LARGEMOUTHS, AND THE OTHER PORTION ON THE ALLEGHENY  FOR SMALLIES.  CALL OR EMAIL FOR SCHEDULING AND PRICING.

NOTE: CATCH AND RELEASE FOR ALL MUSKIE AND BASS OUTINGS.

If your interest leans toward learning bass-catching tactics on Western Pennsylvania’s hard-fished reservoirs, consider spending a day on Armstrong County’s Keystone Lake or Venango County’s Kahle Lake. Keystone’s clear water and deep weed growth provides a perfect venue for learning finesse presentations that take smallmouth and largemouth bass that see a lot of baits. Despite its small size, Kahle Lake harbors a fine largemouth fishery including five-pound plus fish. With extensive weed growth of several types, Kahle is a great place to practice a variety of tactics.

For muskie hunters that prefer lakes, Keystone Connection trips are available on Lake Arthur, Keystone Lake, and Pymatuning Lake.

Visit the “Western PA Waters” page to learn more about the places we fish.
