Around the Garden

Mid season here in Wisconsin Zone 4-5...

Every day is a surprise around every corner of the garden for me.

Cucumbers have begun to bloom and Pickles are made.We have been picking Cilantro for a month now and I am craving the fresh taste of salsa.

Swiss chard has been on the dinner table every night as well for a month and I am waiting for the beets. Yellow is what I chose to plant this year.

Thank you Garden for the Green Blessings!

Recently Garden Wise Living filmed a new episode called “Recapture your Landscape”

With the help from Monrovia Growers and Ames True Temper Tools, we were able to take a small over grown and out dated landscape and transform it into a Low maintenance landscape with a lot of color and textures.

This is a wonderful and colorful Swiss chard that has become our favorite and if you give it a try you will see why it has ranked high in the Vegetable Category of Arlena’s Favorites.

Planting Swiss chard is easy and will germinate with in a few days. Remember not to plant the seeds to deep. Sprinkle the seeds in a row and scatter a light layer of soil on them.

Northern Lights Mix is a 60 day chard but you can eat the new greens within 30days as a small treat.

To prepare Steam the Swiss chard just until tender then add some butter, salt, pepper and a little Red Wine Vinegar. Enjoy!

Plant a Row for the Hungry

As the weather here in Wisconsin Zone 4-5 steadies out a little and we can finally start thinking in terms of real planting!

Please be aware that every day thousands of Children go hungry every night, right here in the good ..old ...USA.

Right here in your own town possibly your own city or even on your own street.

As we plant our gardens I would like you to plant one extra row.

Label it as “the row for the hungry” and send in your pictures and or Video to Garden Wise Living. Please attach a little note telling us what you planted, were you will be taking the extra food and how does this project affect your life and the lives of your family?.
